About Aberdeen Exhibition Centre

Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre (also known as the National Energy Exhibition Centre and often shortened to the AECC), is a large exhibition and conference complex, in Aberdeen, Scotland. The complex is home to a Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express hotel, conference facilities and the 4,800-seat multi-purpose GE Oil and Gas Arena (formerly the Press & Journal Arena from 2002-2012), which can hold around 4,000 to 8,500 people.

The AECC Wayfinding Project

AECC were looking to re design the wayfinding around their venue. As a venue containing meeting rooms, conference suites and an arena spread out over a wide area it is critical that the thousands of visitors know exactly how to get to their event in the shortest period of time.
In the past only traditional signage wayfinding has been used, this project was designed to allow AECC to show up to date information about occupants of meeting and conference rooms along with directions on how to get there. The screens needed to also allow space for advertising which can be sold to exhibitors and sponsors to give the screens a rapid return on investment.Inurface Media worked with our professional wayfinding and crowd movement partner to ensure that all of our template designs were going to compliment the standard signage around the venue.
We specified Iiyama screens coupled with Advantech media players and our CMS to allow AECC to change the dynamic aspect of the screen, the advertising space, while locking out the automatically updating room information side. This streamlines the updating process as it is as easy as dragging and dropping content into the allocated zone.
AECC also opted for a video wall, this is 3 x 75inch screens from the Samsung ME range which have ultra thin bezels. The screens are mounted in portrait giving the ability to run standard content across all screens.
Using our remote support tools we are able to resolve issues as soon as they are flagged up on our system, usually without the customer having to get involved at all.

Josh Bunce from inurface media said
“We really enjoyed working with AECC from sitting down with them and looking at their requirements to developing them a bespoke way finding system they could update in real time and where they can also now moving people round the building in a more affective manor and also generate a revenue from sponsorship.”
